The Design School is conceived of as a bifurcated ribbon split by a vertical multimedia library and design archive with tiered double-height studio spaces on one side and conventional classrooms and support spaces on the other. To accommodate the geometry and clear spans the structure is designed as a combination of custom pre-cast and standard post-tensioned concrete components with outboard insulation and zinc cladding at the closed ends and slab edges with a double-wall glazing system infilling between the concrete surfaces.
