CCSF acquired 3 non-contiguous parcels on a block to consolidate spaces scattered throughout the neighborhood into one cohesive campus. After multiple iterations, programming and schematic design were completed to build the project on two of the lots. Before continuing, a redesign of the schematic massing and exteriors was requested, leading to a quick charrette to develop the new design direction. (All prior and subsequent work by others.)
The original scheme of a 3-story podium with tower above is maintained in the redesign while transforming the amoeba-like curved tower in two articulated slabs of classrooms running E-W. The North and South facades are optimized for daylighting through glass window-wall and exterior shading on the south.
